WUSC Harambee Dinner

The VIU-WUSC Local Committee is a group of globally concerned students at Vancouver Island University that works in partnership with the Canadian Development Agency and World University Service of Canada (WUSC). They share a belief that education changes the world. This year they are sponsoring their second student refugee to immigrate to Canada and pursue their educational goals at Vancouver Island University. As can be appreciated, sponsorship comes at a considerable cost. The total amount to sponsor a student attending Vancouver Island University is $20,000, which includes the living and school expenses for the student for an entire year.

VIU-WUSC invites you to Harambee, an evening of food, dance, and enjoyment. All proceeds will go toward providing sponsorship to a student refugee from Africa to immigrate to Canada and pursue higher education at VIU. Harambee will be held on Saturday, April 24, 2010, at 6 pm, at Costin Hall, 7232 Lantzville Road, Lantzville, British Columbia, Canada. There will be a four-course meal prepared by local chefs, music provided by a lively African-flavour local band, and a silent auction. Tickets are $55 and are tax deductible.

To buy tickets, book a table, or obtain more information about the Student Refugee Program, contact the VIU WUSC Harambee phone line at 250-585-3310. The co-chair Laura Albion will be available to answer calls. For a table of 10, there’s a special rate of $475. For a table of eight, the special rate is $380.
