Vida Newington is leading a workshop titled Watercolour for Beginners I: Working with Washes at the Nanaimo Art Gallery, 900 Fifth Street, on Saturday, February 26, 2011, from 10 am to 4 pm. This workshop is aimed at the absolute beginner in watercolour. Learning how to work with washes will build your basic skills in watercolour. You will learn how to apply a flat dry wash, a wet wash, a graded wash, a streaked wash, and a textured wash; basic colour mixing will also be covered. Then apply some of these techniques and learn how to paint a west coast water scene. Once you have mastered washes and learned the basics of colour mixing, you are well on your way to becoming an accomplished watercolourist. Gallery members pay $65 plus HST tuition, non-members: $75 plus HST, all supplies included. All-day Vancouver Island University parking is $4. To register call the campus gallery at 250-740-6350.
