The Vancouver Island Exhibition will bring “critters, squeals, and ferris wheels” to Beban Park, 2300 Bowen Road, Nanaimo, on August 21, 22, and 23, 2009. This is Nanaimo’s annual country fair with livestock barns and displays, 4-H horse show, goat milking and bathing, dog show, rabbits, sheep, poultry, cows, pigs, home show, go green showcase, vintage tractors, kids zone, midway, home arts, model search, skateboard competition, and songbird competition. There will be live entertainment on the main stage all day with feature acts by Jaydee Bixby on Friday night and Default on Saturday night.
Admission is $9 for adults, $6 for youth 13 to 18 and seniors, and $3 for kids 7 to 12. On Friday only seniors and special needs visitors will be allowed in for $3. For free public parking use the Dorman Road entrance, otherwise it’s $2 to park in the lot off Labieux Road. The VIEX is a wonderful local tradition dating back over a century which supports island agricultural producers and volunteer groups, so be sure to visit. The doors open at 9 am daily.
