In 2009 the documentary The Cove won the Audience Award at the Sundance Film Festival, the leading showcase for independent film. At 6:30 pm on Monday, January 17, 2011, this important film will come to Nanaimo with a showing in Building 356, Room 109, Vancouver Island University, 900 Fifth Street. In March 2011 local animal rights activists Marley Daviduk, Mike Vos, and Carisa Webster are going to Japan to act as Sea Shepherd Cove Guardians in an effort to help stop the dolphin slaughter. Tickets to the screening are $10 and all money raised will help send Marley, Mike, and Carisa to Japan. You can buy a ticket at Boston Pizza, Thirsty Camel, or Tourism Nanaimo. Following the film, there will be a talk and slide show by past Cove Guardian Tarah Millen.
