Sky High Productions is offering a 10-week Rock and Blues Basics Musical Instrument Exploration Course for youths aged nine to 12. Classes will begin on Tuesday, September 22, 2009, from 4 to 5:30 pm weekly, at the Blues Underground, 10 Lois Lane under the China Steps, Nanaimo. The cost is $225 for the 10 weeks. This program is designed to introduce youths to different instruments in a performance style venue by giving students a hands on opportunity to play, learn, and work in various styles. If you know a young performer who wants to get into music and isn’t exactly sure what they would like to focus on, then this is a great opportunity for him or her.
Students will experience guitar, bass, drums, keys, vocal, and percussion elements to discover the right fit and appropriate musical interest for them. Sky High Productions will teach students the basics of instrument care and maintenance, how to hold and play each, how to use a microphone and monitors, each persons place in a band, how band members communicate, and different styles and genres of music. Participants will get official Rock Star Treatment.
All skill levels from beginners to advanced are catered for and the program is designed to allow all levels of experience to explore. Participants will learn in a structured and fun environment, growing self esteem and confidence along the way. They will rock out! Classes will take place at the Blues Underground and all instruments and gear will be provided. On appropriate days students may bring their own stuff if they desire. The instructors will be Tom Dodge, Manda Chelmak, and Rockin’ friends. For more information and to register call 250-616-6242.

Well, that’s pretty neat. I noticed your earlier post also refers to a class for adults. It’s really possible to open someone’s musical door wide starting with teaching three chords and a blues scale. From there, a lot of things can start making sense!
