The Nanaimo Art Gallery, 900 Fifth Street, entrance 5D, is presenting Swan Song: Richard A. Conroy Retrospective from March 11 to April 9, 2011. The opening reception is on Friday, March 11, 2011, from 5 to 7 pm. This retrospective exhibition is to celebrate the career of graphic design professor and artist Richard A Conroy. Over the past 23 years, Conroy has had the pleasure and honour of being part of the Vancouver Island University’s Art and Design Department. Throughout the years, he has designed and instructed courses for all three of the department’s program offerings and, at the same time, created a large body of art work in various mediums. Conroy will be retiring in December 2011 and this retrospective of his work will display the prolific and creative output of his artistic career thus far. Swan Song will display work from over the past two decades including twelve of his most recent pieces of art. The exhibition is also an opportunity for Conroy to thank all students, past and present, department colleagues, and Vancouver Island University’s faculty and staff. The gallery invites the public to view the artwork of this dedicated educator and talented artist until April 9, 2011.
