On Saturday, April 24, 2010, the Nanaimo and Area Land Trust Edible Wild Plants Project will host the first annual Wild Greens Festival between 11 am and 4 pm in the Bowen Park Auditorium, 500 Bowen Road, Nanaimo. This one-day event will showcase local chefs cooking savory snacks and delightful, decadent deserts with wild edible plants. These foods will be available to sample from 12 noon to 3 pm at a small cost. Admission itself is free.
Also featured at the Wild Greens Festival will be knowledgeable speakers from various food security and native plants groups. Other festival highlights include guided plant walks, live music from local musicians, vendors of locally produced food products, and information kiosks. There will also be a Kids Zone for children to enjoy wild crafts and learn a little about wild plants, while giving parents a break.
The NALT Wild Greens Festival is your chance to learn how to identify, ethically harvest, prepare, and garden with local wild plants. All in all, this day will provide an excellent opportunity to experience wild plants through all of your senses! As well, NALT is excited to be releasing their Recipes Gone Wild Recipe Calendar at this event. For more information call Paul Chapman at 250-714-1990.
