Lori Sorensen will teach a course titled Learn from the Masters on four Monday afternoons, 2 to 4:30 pm, from February 21 to March 14, 2011, at the Nanaimo Art Gallery, downtown location, 150 Commercial Street. Ever wondered how Emily Carr started a painting? Would you love to paint in the style of EJ Hughes? In this course, you will learn more about four of British Columbia’s best known artists of the 20th century: Emily Carr, EJ Hughes, Jack Shadbolt, and Takao Tanabe. Through stories, discussion, and art activities Lori will examine the lives and working methods of each of these artists. Each week she will focus on one artist and learn about the materials and techniques they used to create their art. Using the working methods they implemented, you will learn how to make your own art in their style. Tuition for gallery members is $90 plus HST, for non-members $105 plus HST. A supply list will be provided at time of registration. To register call 250-754-1750.
