Linda Findlay will lead an Absolute Beginner Acrylic Painting Workshop at the Nanaimo Art Gallery, campus location, 900 Fifth Street, entrance 5D, building 330, on Saturday, January 29, 2011, from 10 am to 4 pm. This one-day workshop is aimed at those who have always wanted to paint but feel intimidated about getting started. Starting at the very beginning, students will learn the basics about acrylic paint including which paints to buy, how to mix basic colours, how to choose brushes and painting surfaces, where to use gesso, and a brief introduction to mediums and gels. Utilizing two fun painting exercises, you will experiment with some basic painting techniques. The aim of this workshop is to learn some basic skills about working with paint and to provide encouragement by demystifying the medium and its tools. The cost is $65 plus HST for gallery members or $75 plus HST for non-members, all supplies included. All-day Vancouver Island University parking is $4. Instructor Linda Findlay is a painter with a primary interest in working with acrylics. Linda considers drawing to be an essential skill in her art making process, and loves to share her love of it with others. She firmly believes that everyone can be creative. Linda is a graduate of the Ontario college of Art and Design and has an MA in Art Education from SFU. She taught drawing and painting for 15 years at many Vancouver colleges and schools before relocating to Nanaimo.
