An exhilarating annual event for 42 years, Ladysmith Days celebrates the town’s abundant pool of resident entertainers with an exciting line-up of musicians, singers, and dancers. This year Ladysmith Days falls on the BC Day long weekend, August 1-2, 2009. On Saturday morning a splendid program of activities kicks off in downtown Ladysmith with a pancake breakfast, followed by a parade, live music, varied entertainment, and a BBQ steak dinner. On Sunday Transfer Beach Park is the venue for arts and crafts shows, fireworks, and children’s games and activities including kids’ kayaking, a sand volleyball tournament, and a horseshoe tournament.
Situated on the 49th parallel, the town of Ladysmith celebrated its centenary in 2004. It’s set on a steep hillside overlooking the sparkling waters of Oyster Harbour. A casual stroll down Ladysmith’s main street, with its wonderful stock of heritage buildings, is like a journey through time. The town has a population of 8,000 and is located 20 kilometres south of Nanaimo and 95 kilometres north of Victoria. A complete list of event times and venues is on the Ladysmith Days website.
