Juno-award-winning guitarist Ken Hamm will bring his repertoire of original and traditional blues and roots material to Nanaimo for a concert at Headliners School of Performing Arts, 165 Fraser St., at 8 pm on Friday, February 25, 2011. Over the past 34 years Ken has built an international reputation through extensive touring in Canada, Africa, the UK, and continental Europe. He has eight CDs to his credit and is currently touring to promote the release of Live ’05, a double CD set of live recordings of blues and original favourites. Tickets are $20 in advance or $25 at the door ($20 for Nanaimo Blues Society members). For more information call Headliners at 250-753-2323 or 250-616-6242.
Ken Hamm is also well-known as a guitar instructor, offering courses from two hours to five days in length. His hard-driving finger style and slide techniques are the envy of many players and he is pleased to share his knowledge in a workshop setting. A guitar workshop with Ken Hamm is offered on Saturday, February 26, 2011, from 11 am to 1 pm ($35). Students should bring a guitar, a tuner, a slide, and any kind of recording device they can find.
Ken Hamm is the 2010 recipient of Great Canadian Blues Award presented by CBC’s Saturday Night Blues host, Holger Peterson. This is a listeners’ choice award for a Canadian blues artist who has made a lifetime contribution to the blues — so thank you to all you listeners!
