Brenda McIntyre will provide a glimpse into the magical world of glass fusing from 10 am to 3 pm on Saturday, November 27, 2010, at the Nanaimo Art Gallery, VIU Branch, 900 Fifth Street. Participants will learn the basic principles behind fusing glass in a kiln. Brenda McIntyre of Cheeky Monkey Glassworks will teach you all you need to know to make beautiful fused art. She will start with some theory and then move on to designing a 4″ x 4″ tile/coaster to get the creative juices flowing. Now you’re getting the hang of it, she’ll move onto a 5″ x 7″ sun catcher of a nature scene, flowers or abstract design. You dream it up, she’ll make it happen. Come prepared with creative ideas in mind and be ready for fun! All projects made will be fused in Brenda’s glass kiln at her studio. They will be available for pickup the following week.
Brenda McIntyre has a passion for glass and the way light plays with it. Inspired by the beach glass and Chinese glass floats she collected as a kid, Brenda found her way into the world of stained glass. Her passion for it propelled her into a 15-year career working with stained and fused glass, as well as teaching workshops and classes. Brenda recently bought Cheeky Monkey glassworks where she creates custom stained glass, sells glass supplies and teaches workshops. Tuition for the Introduction to Glass Fusing workshop is $75 plus HST for gallery members or $85 plus HST for non-members, all supplies included. All day parking at Vancouver Island University costs $4. For more information, call Chris Kuderle at 250-740-6350.
