Your favourite cross cultural celebration, Xin Nian Haggis – Gung Haggis Fat Choy, is back, once again blending Chinese New Year 4709, the Year of the Rabbit, with a celebration of Robbie Burns 252nd birthday. This is always a popular and fun event, and where else can you get haggis won tons and neaps and tatties spring rolls? In 2010, Xin Nian Haggis was at the Spice Lounge in downtown Nanaimo, but this year this event will take place at the Nanaimo Yacht Club, Newcastle Avenue and Rosehill Street, from 4 to 7 pm on Saturday, January 29, 2011.
Tickets are $20 (children six to 11 are half price and under six are free) and the price includes entertainment, a Chinese buffet, and a Lucky Draw door prize. Net proceeds go to the Nanaimo Art Gallery. Tickets are available at the downtown Nanaimo Art Gallery, 150 Commercial St., the Nanaimo Chinese Language and Art Centre at 250-729-9948, and at McLean’s Specialty Foods, 426 Fitzwilliam Street. Get them soon because this event will sell out. Xin Nian Hao = Happy New Year!
