A group of Gabriola Island artists including Mariko McCrae, Bryan McCrae, and Sylvie Milman have created a new event called Gabriola Winter Art Affair (GWAA). From 11 am to 5 pm on Saturday, December 18, 2010, many Gabriola artist studios and venues will be open to visitors, families, and friends. GWAA will be hosted by over 30 local artists working in a variety of mediums such as glass, ceramics, jewelry, woodworking, painting, sculpture, and textiles. In addition, some of the studios will be featuring accessories such as homemade soaps and apothecaries. Be it an item big or small, you can rest assured that each is made with the utmost care and craftsmanship. Each purchase will be the perfect gift for the ones you love the most.
Gabriola Island is located just 20 minutes by ferry from downtown Nanaimo. You can pick up a free Gabriola Art Affair map at Artworks in the Folklife Village, 3415 South Road, Slice of Life Gallery in the Madrona’s Shopping Centre, 510 North Road, or at any participating artist’s studio. All of the artist studios are indicated by an easy-to-spot Igloo poster. Enjoy a GWAA getaway to the “Isle of the Arts” this holiday season. For more information call Sylvie Milman at 250-247-2051.
