Don LePan Reading

animals150Nanaimo author Don LePan will read from his new book Animals: a novel at 7 pm on Thursday, December 10, 2009, at Back Page Books, Nanaimo. Animals is set in an indeterminate future in which virtually all the species that humans have for millennia used as food have become extinct; the world this change creates is at once eerily foreign and disturbingly familiar. Catherine Banks author of Bone Cage judged Animals as “provocative, original, beautifully crafted, and achingly human. This is a novel that illuminates what we so-called ‘higher beings’ strive to keep darkly hidden from our consciousness.”

LePan’s reading will be followed by a discussion. Refreshments will be served and signed copies of Animals will be available. Admission is free.

Back Page Books is Nanaimo’s newest bookstore, at #5 – 321 Wesley Street in Heritage Mews near Lobelia’s Lair in the Old City Quarter. Attending the LePan reading is a good way to meet some Nanaimo literati and help see Back Page Books get off to a good start. For more information call 250-591-1414.
