It’s a basic travel fact on Vancouver Island that golf course restaurants offer good food at reasonable prices and the Cotton Club Restaurant at the 18-hole Cottonwood Golf Course, 1975 Haslam Road, Cassidy, is a good example of this. The friendly service, unpretentious atmosphere, and excellent kitchen are inviting, and the outdoor terrace overlooking Cottonwood’s 9th hole, with the island’s mountainous interior in the background, is really pleasant on a warm summer afternoon.
Check the blackboard specials as you arrive, then peruse the regular menu which lists soups and salads, appetizers, sandwiches and wraps, and lunch entrees. You won’t find any hamburgers here, only creative sandwiches like the monte cristo made from turkey and ham dipped in egg and fried. Try the signature cotton clubhouse sandwich or order a steak sandwich. The fish and chips are attractively priced, and there’s quesadilla, personal pizzas, and nachos. The bar has wine specials.
The Cotton Club Restaurant is open from 11 am to 7 pm daily. Sometimes the restaurant is booked for special events like wedding banquets, so it wouldn’t hurt to call ahead at tel. 250-245-5157 before making the drive out.
You can easily include lunch at the Cotton Club Restaurant with our South Nanaimo Driving Tour by continuing north on Adshead Road from Hazelwood Herb Farm, then left on Haslam Road. Cottonwood Golf Course runs along the east side of Nanaimo Airport and it’s a great place to take family or friends after checking in. Haslam Road is the first right turn off the Trans Canada Highway north of the airport, a five-minute drive. Check-ins at the airport usually begin three hours before departure, allowing ample time for a leisurely lunch at the Cotton Club before boarding a flight. Now there’s a real insider’s tip for you.
