Comedian Ryan Uchman
Nanaimo comedian Ryan Uchman has launched a zany website called Wines That Don’t Blow! Ryan sent me the following message to post on this blog:
Hello, my name is Ryan Uchman. I’m a freelance comedy writer and creator of Wines That Don’t Blow!, a wine comedy website based out of Nanaimo. The site is somewhat satirical in nature, which is just a snotty way of saying we poke fun at pretentious wine writers and snobby wine people in general through our reviews and special contributors we have created specifically for the site. Ultimately, our goal is to educate people in Nanaimo and across the country about affordable, quality wines available at most liquor stores and to have a laugh while doing it!
The idea came from the fact that I love wine but can’t stand wine snobs! Unfortunately, wine and snobbery for the most part seem to go hand and hand. I think it sucks that these bullies have the upper hand on an entire market of wine consumers. Don’t get me wrong, I respect their knowledge on wine, but most of their advice is filled with such boring, unnecessary information for the everyday wine drinker. The average person just wants to know what wine they should pick up on their way home from work that doesn’t blow! Wines That Don’t Blow! tries to do just that in an entertaining fashion.
In addition to our wine reviews, the site also features special contributors created by myself and another comedy writer, Patrick Pyott, a Canadian who is based out of Japan. You have Mike Demone, an Italian tough guy who delivers his wine picks in a no-nonsense fashion, Johnathon Snobbington, who informs his readers about the way things should be done when it comes to wine, and Beatrice Ironcross, our resident anti-drinking expert. New entries are posted almost daily, so check it out and tell all your friends!
