The 2011 Brant Wildlife Festival celebrates nature on mid-Vancouver Island. Events run from March 5 to April 19, 2011, while Brant geese rest and feed on their way to their northern breeding grounds. The Brant Wildlife Festival kicks off with the opening night on March 5, 2011, at the Parksville Conference Centre. The keynote speaker, Briony Penn, will talk about For the Love of Nature, while Rob Butler will be the MC. Appetizers will be served and a no host bar. Pre-registration is $20 per person.
Sunday, March 6, 2011, is Brant in the Bay from 10 am to 2 pm at Parksville Community Park on the waterfront. You’ll learn about Brant geese and witness the amazing phenomena of spring migration with the Arrowsmith Naturalists. Admission is free. The Wild Shores Herring Tour also takes place on March 6. Gary and Ronda Murdock of Pacific Rainforest Adventure Tours will lead this guided tour. Pre-register: $20 per person. Monday, March 7, 2011, join the Mount Arrowsmith Biosphere Foundation to view the film Taking Root at the Parksville Conference Centre and discuss it afterwards. Early bird tickets are $7 ($10 at the door).
From March 14 to March 18, 2011, the Rathtrevor Beach Provincial Park Nature House in the park, three km south of Parksville on Hwy 19a, will host a nature camp. Children will learn in the great outdoors and express their experiences. Pre-registration for ages six to 12 is $35 per day or $150 all five days (9 am to 3 pm).
