British Columbia songbird Beverley McKeen writes insightfully emotional lyrics about subjects spanning the environment, fellowship, humour, heartbreak, and haywire relationships. Catchy melodies flow through the words heard on her two gentle rock-roots compact discs, On Purpose and Poetic Wax.
Born in New Brunswick and residing on Vancouver Island, McKeen says a “seaboards” and “classical” influence weaves its way through her music. Beverley McKeen’s music features provocative styles that are profoundly memorable. She began writing poetry early in life and composed music on the piano in her teens, and then the two expressions merged. In 1989 she had four works published in the American Poetry Anthology. During her career McKeen has written themes for movies, birthdays, retirements, weddings, political events, or anniversaries. Beverley enjoys the challenge of writing on demand.
McKeen performs at music festivals, coffeehouses, weddings, pubs, universities/colleges, Christmas caroling, birthdays, farm markets, political events, and any other gig where music is needed, all year round. From 10 am to 2 pm on June 18 and July 30, 2010, Beverley McKeen and Martyn Jones will be performing at the Bastion Square Farmers Market in downtown Nanaimo.
