The Nanaimo Art Gallery is offering ArtRageous! Summer Art Camps. The gallery’s 900 Fifth St. location will offer age- friendly four-day children’s summer art day-camps from August 3-6, 2010, and August 17-20, 2010. Camp instructors will be professional artists.
For the 7 -11 year age group, the August 3-6 morning workshops will focus on a series of projects involving Hide-‘n-Go Art, while the afternoon workshops focus on mythical beasts and making a wide variety of weird and wonderful creatures. For the 12+ age group the August 3-6 morning workshops will focus on culture pop, exploring the connections between pop culture and art through comic strips, graphic novels, graffiti, street art, posters, and packaging. The afternoon art wizardry workshops will focus on the gothic world of wizards, vampires, and magical beings.
For the 7 -11 year age group, the August 17-20 morning creative carnival workshops allow the student to be their very own ringmaster in an artistic three-act circus of their own creation. The afternoon workshops will focus on monstrous mixed media, with monsters, monsters everywhere! For the 12+ age group, the August 17-20 morning workshops will deal in guerrilla artfare using banners, t-shirts, buttons, and other creations to learn how to use art as a way to make a positive change. The afternoon nation creation workshops give students the opportunity to create a nation from their very own imagination.
The total cost of the four-day long art camps is $170. The cost of just doing four mornings or four afternoons is $85. Sibling discounts are $280 for two siblings attending the full four days or $150 for siblings attending only morning or afternoons. Want to register? Either drop by the Nanaimo Art Gallery, VIU campus location (Mon-Fri 10 am to 5 pm), or give Jacqueline Yeo a call at 250-740-6350.
