An Artacular adventure had arrived at the Nanaimo Art Gallery. From the people who brought you the Festival of Banners, ARTFEST, Artist in the Schools, and Artrageous! Saturdays comes a new art adventure for kids. The gallery is eager to entice young art enthusiasts to join them for a new program of summer camps: Artists-story and Those Crazy Artists. For two weeks in August, 2009, the art gallery will be hosting two art camps for children ages 8 to 12.
The first camp takes place August 3 to 7, 2009. Artists-story will be taking an exciting journey of art through the ages. They’ll will be creating pieces such as Greek vases out of paper maché, an 18th century museum with it’s own local curiosities, and a personalized Warhol-esque painting.
From August 17 to 21, 2009, Those Crazy Artists is seeking to understand “crazy” artists, their works and styles, while exploring various art mediums. They’ll will be exploring Van Gogh’s use of colour and texture, the found object incorporation of DADAism, the portrait technique of Michelangelo, and da Vinci through sculpture.
Both camps will introduce students to hands on art adventures using various media such as painting, mask making, and sculpture. The summer camps will be held Monday to Friday from 9 am to 4 pm at the Vancouver Island University Campus location, 900 Fifth street, Nanaimo. The price is $150 for each weekly camp. If you are interested in signing your kids up, or perhaps even volunteering, contact either Shivaali Acharya or Briana Sadler for more information at 250-740-6351.
