Art Through The Ages

4Cats

Tara Gray of Nanaimo’s 4Cats Art Studio is having her first art show. Until March 10, 2011, 14 young artists ages three to 14 who will be displaying their works on Arts Through The Ages at the Nanaimo Art Gallery, 150 Commercial St. The gala opening party is on Saturday, March 5, 2011, from noon to 2 pm.

Tara Gray: “I’m hoping that this is just the first of many shows, so that other 4Cats kids can show their works as well. There is so much talent here! Art is so important for kids. Not only does it inspire and promote creativity and problem solving skills, but it builds confidence and a sense of pride. I think that this show is something to be very proud of. The gala opening on the 5th is for all ages. We’ll have refreshments and a draw for a free 4Cats Splatter Party. There will also be a wildlife exhibit going on at the gallery and the North Island Wildlife Rescue Centre will be there with one of their birds. I am so excited to be bringing the talented works of some of the 4Cats kids to the Nanaimo Art Gallery. I am filled with joy and pride for my artists when they finish a painting that they’ve worked so hard on. I know most of their paintings get hung in a spot of honour at home, but it will be so fantastic to see them in the Nanaimo Art Gallery and to share their talent and inspiration with others.”

Rose Dickson, from the Nanaimo Art Gallery says, “We are thrilled to support the creativity and enthusiasm of young artists. We have hosted children’s art exhibitions in the past, and our experience is that the children are so proud to see their work displayed in a gallery setting. It is inspiring for the kids to be exhibited in this way, and the public—adults and children alike—appreciate seeing the work of young artists. We are happy to do whatever we can to encourage future generations of talented artists to continue their craft.”

4Cats Nanaimo was originally started by Joey and Darryl Simon in 2006 and has been owned by Tara Gray since 2010. 4Cats runs classes for kids aged two to 15. One of the most popular programs is the Artist of the Month where kids learn about two famous artists and create masterpieces in the style or spirit of that artist. Other kinds of classes include stop-motion animation, clay and sculpture, mixed medium, and drawing. 4cats has many birthday parties to choose from, including their famous Splatter Paint Party, Jackson Pollock style. They even let adults in there to join in the fun every once in a while! For more information on Nanaimo 4Cats Art Studio, 7217 Lantzville Road, call 250-933-2424.
