The downtown Nanaimo Art Gallery, 150 Commercial Street, will be hosting an Art for Wildlife Exhibition and Silent Auction from March 3 to 26, 2011. Proceeds from this joint fundraiser for the North Island Wildlife Recovery Centre and the Nanaimo Art Gallery will be split 50/50. The gallery has put together an impressive line up of works for the exhibition and they invite additional donations from artists, such as wildlife/nature themed paintings, pottery, and nature based abstracts.
There will be a special opening for this wildlife and nature themed exhibition on Saturday, March 5, 2011, featuring a visit by staff from the North Island Wildlife Recovery Centre. In order to increase awareness of wild animals, Centre staff will bring along one of their owls. From 1030 am to noon Nanaimo artist Della Burford will lead a special ArtRageous children’s workshop titled How to live in harmony with wildlife. Starting with story telling to inspire young creative minds, each child will then create their own multimedia art work. This workshop is designed for ages five to 11 (four year olds considered if accompanied by an adult) with an admission fee of $10 per child or $15 for two siblings. All art supplies are included. Contact the gallery at 250-754-1750 to register.
Following the ArtRageous workshop, there will be presentations and a silent auction. Bring the whole family to participate in this fun and educational day.
